September 6, 2005 UPDATE:
Bunny is doing well after the surgery and is resting comfortable. Dr. Kinnarney said the urethra was under a lot of stress and it was not healing properly. The urethra was healing together causing it to close up, therefore performing a blockage. Dr. Harling has re-sutured the urethra and vulva so that hopefully it will form its own track. ……She will have to remain in the hospital on antibiotics and morphine for pain for a couple days while they watch her closely to make sure she will be able to pee. Only time will tell if this new procedure will work…………..
Please keep those prayers going for Bunny, she has had a hard fight, and she has continued to keep high puggie spirits and is not giving up the fight to get well! Chris
September 9, 2005 UPDATE:
She is home with her tail wagging. Dr. Harling has constructed a new opening by lengthening her vulva upward. She needs to have her urethra irrigated a couple of times a day till all heals so it won't grow together. We hope this is the solution. If not, the last resort will be a prepubic cath. This means she will urinate from an area on her tummy just before her pubic bone. She is urinating fine right now. He has put her on Heartguard to try and keep heartworms in check as she will not be ready for heart worm treatment for a while. Lana, Bunny's foster Mom. September 12, 2005 UPDATE:
How do I put this delicately?? Bunny can pee a river now!!! HA!!! I know some people think I am crazy being so happy about such a thing but this is a first since we rescued her!! I just hope that we are finally finding the solution!!
Because of this last surgery my plan for her to be ready to go to her
forever home at our picnic has been cancelled. Dr. Harling and I have
decided to take it one day at a time and see how things heal and work.
Then we will start her on the heartworm treatment.
So for now she and Ms. Vicki will be best buds and in sync tailwaggers!
Thanks to all for your wonderful emails!! Hope to see you at the
picnic!! Ms. Vicki and Bunny will be in the Rescue Parade! Lana
September 20, 2005 UPDATE:
Bunny is
doing great! So far this last surgery seems to be the answer. I am almost
afraid to say this as we are passing the dreaded 2 week mark. It seemed
like that was her crisis time before each new surgery.
If all continues she will begin her heartworm treatment towards the middle
of October. I spoke to Dr. Harling yesterday about her status and he
wanted to give her lots of recuperative time before beginning the
treatment considering all she has already been through. So if all goes
well she will be well and hopefully in her forever home before
Thanksgiving.
She seems very happy and really enjoyed herself at the Triad Tails
Adoption Fair. However ,she will not be coming to the Pug Picnic as she
must have rest and quiet during the heartworm treatment.
Thanks for all your good wishes and kind thoughts, Lana
October 4, 2005 UPDATE:
I am making her heartworm treatment appointment for next Monday.
October 10, 2005 UPDATE:
Bunny has just completed her
"spa" date. She has had a nice bath, ear cleaning and her nails done.
Now we are off to the vets for her heartworm treatment. I can tell you
that I am very nervous about the coming days.
She needs the power of your prayers and thoughts during the next month!!
October 12, 2005 UPDATE:
Bunny is home! She did very well with her treatment. In fact, unless she has a difficult time at the 2 week period she is home free and needs only a follow up in 6 months.
It was hard to tell who was the happiest at this news as everyone in the
vets office was smiling and Bunny was just wagging her tail as hard as
she could!!!
So, just keep that power of thought and prayer going and we will see her
through these next 3.5 weeks!!
October 25, 2005 UPDATE:
Bunny continue to recovery very well. She doesn't even act like she is sick at all anymore. May God Bless You "ALL" for helping her through the hardest times in her life! Thanks to you she is going to make it just fine!
